Create new pages

Use the included Menumanager (Not available in standard CMSimple)

The headings are used for splitting up the content file. An H1, H2 or H3 heading will dynamically split the document into new pages in the table of contents. An H4-heading is used as a heading within a page and can be styled with CSS.

How it works

CMSimple stores all your content into a database-file called content.htm

It stores plain HTML there with no additional information. To create the individual pages, it goes through that file and looks for all Headlines. Headlines are HTML-Tags like this:

This is a Headline

You can see tags only if you switch to HTML-Mode by clicking this button:

Be careful what you do in HTML-Mode, because it can mess up your site. To create a new site without the Menumanager just write your new headline where you want to split or create a new site, mark your new text and press the
Überschrift 1 or Überschrift 2 or Überschrift 3 buttons.

You have then created a new page within CMSimple.

The tree structure

You must always have your Headlines in a logical tree structure, which means you can not have a Überschrift 1 followed by a Überschrift 3, because that makes no logical sense. CMSimple will still work but gets confused, so try to remember this. Its a common mistake from new users.

If you have lots of content, its recommended to not put it all into the first level of
Überschrift 1 headlines but to make up "categories" of Überschrift 1 and put all your content into Überschrift 2-pages

Überschrift 1 Cars

Überschrift 2 BMW

Überschrift 2 VW

Überschrift 2 Opel

Überschrift 2 AUDI

Überschrift 1 Fruits

Überschrift 2 Apple

Überschrift 2 Banana

Überschrift 2 Orange

Überschrift 2 Pineapple

Deleting a page

To delete a page, simply delete all content together with the Headline. Make sure the headline is completely gone, not just empty. If its just empty you will see

Änderungsmodus Mode. Its easier to delete with the menumanager because there you just drag the page to the right and click save.

Using H4 Headlines

The Überschrift 4 Headline does not create a new page, but can be used as a Headline within a page. All Sub-headlines on this page are Überschrift 4

By creating a CSS-Rule h4 { your style here } in the stylesheet you can style the
Überschrift 4Headlines to give them a unique look different from the regular text.

Messing up content.htm

CMSimple has a hard time handling "junk data" in your content file. This can get added by copying straight from old versions of Microsoft Word or get added by badly designed System-Protection Software like that from Norton or Zonelabs. Whenever you feel like CMSimple shows weird behavior, check your content.htm file in html view for pieces of code that you don't understand or seem out of place. Its important to have only text between the headlines and not XML-Data or other unknown code.

You should also search for the first HEADLINE in your content.htm and verify that there is nothing above it. Delete everything above it if you find something. Or else it can happen that CMSimple tries to delete your first page every time you hit save!

A good tip if you use copy & paste often is to first copy your text to the windows notepad or to use a tool like "puretext" to purify your text.

Its also recommended to temporarily (while working with CMSimple) turn of software like Norton's Total Internet Security or Zonealarm.

In case you totally messed up you can always restore one of your latest backups.
